Understanding WebI Context Operators in Power BI
The biggest friction point in SAP BO migrations is calculation context. WebI evaluates metrics based on report blocks, sections, and breaks, whereas Power BI relies on row context and filter context in a star schema.
1. In Report → ALL('Table')
Grand Total
In WebI, In Report calculates the measure across all rows in the dataset, ignoring block-level table dimensions. In DAX, wrap the measure with CALCULATE([Measure], ALL('Table')).
2. Where → CALCULATE(..., KEEPFILTERS)
Filtered Slice
WebI Where ([Dim]="Val") applies an inline filter. In Power BI, never pass raw boolean filters without understanding context overwrite; use KEEPFILTERS to preserve existing slicers.
3. ForAll → REMOVEFILTERS([Dimension])
Exclude Slicing
WebI ForAll ([Product]) instructs the engine to compute the metric ignoring the specified dimension while honoring all other visual dimensions. In DAX, use REMOVEFILTERS('Table'[Product]).
4. ForEach → SUMX(VALUES([Dimension]), ...)
Finer Granularity
WebI ForEach ([Store]) forces aggregation at a lower level of granularity before rolling up. In DAX, this requires an iterator function like SUMX(VALUES('Table'[Store]), [Measure]).
